EA Sports announced Japan’s J1 League is coming to FIFA 17 for the very first time in franchise history. After years of exclusivity, Konami will no longer have control over the J1 League license for its Pro Evolution Soccer video game.
The Konami exclusivity was the main reason Japan’s women soccer team was absent in last year’s FIFA title. Also, the men’s team has only appeared in EA FIFA’s World Cup editions.
All of J1 League’s 18 teams, as well as the J.League Cup tournament and the Suita City Football Stadium, will make an appearance in FIFA 17’s Ultimate Team and other modes.
The 18 Japanese professional soccer teams included in the league are:
- Vegalta Sendai
- Kashima Antlers
- Urawa Reds
- Omiya Ardija
- Kashiwa Reysol
- FC Tokyo
- Kawasaki Frontale
- Yokohama F. Marinos
- Shonan Bellmare
- Ventforet Kofu
- Albirex Niigata
- Júbilo Iwata
- Nagoya Grampus
- Gamba Osaka
- Vissel Kobe
- Sanfrecce Hiroshima
- Avispa Fukuoka
- Sagan Tosu
