Even with the absence of EA and Activision inside the convention, E3 2016 is a huge success for the ESA. Though the number of the usual audience that goes every year (including journalists and people working for the gaming industry) went down from 52,200 at E3 2015 to 50,300 this year (a 3.6% decline), the first-ever E3 Live event open to the public had an attendance of 20,000 people, for a total of 70,300.
EA had its own EA Play held outside the expo this year, while Activision decided back in March to not have a booth on the show floor back at this year’s event to rely mainly on Sony’s conference to show its games.
In addition, the ESA announced E3 2017 will take place from June 13 – 15 next year.
