After the merge of Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International, Sony Interactive Entertainment will become the new home of PlayStation in April.
SIE will unite the hardware and software division (SCE) with the network services division (SNIE). In other words, everything PlayStation-related, including research and development, will be done under the new division.
The headquarters of the new merged unit will be in San Mateo, California, while establishing important business operations in London and Tokyo.
The new name will take effect on Friday, April 1st, 2016.
“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation® business,” stated Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Group Executive in charge of Network Entertainment of Sony Corporation. “Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market.”
House will maintain the position of President and Global CEO at SIE, but other executives will have other roles, such as Shawn Layden (currently the President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America) who will become the head of Worldwide Studios at SIE. See chart for more info.
