Today, Sony announced 30 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide ever since its release on November 15, 2013 until November 22 of this year. According to SCE, “PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation® hardware history.”
“We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation.”
The PS4 has been a success so far in this generation of gaming, surpassing Microsoft and Nintendo. As of October 20, 2015, 9 million PS4 consoles have been sold in the US alone. Unfortunately for Sony, the PS Vita has not seen the same positive results in portable devices where the Nintendo 3DS family of devices shine and smartphones have been getting the attention of casual users.
