Though it is not the one many fans were hoping for but it is a good step for the PlayStation maker as Sony will bring PS2 games to PS4 via emulation.
“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a Sony representative told Wired. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
There are already games that take advantage of the emulation feature. The game Star Wars: Battlefront comes with a collection of classic titles such as Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.
According to Digital Foundry, the last three mentioned games, originally released on the PS2, do work on the PS4 via downloadable versions of the PS2 titles found on PSN. Each classic game can be obtained via PSN code.
