Yesterday, Nintendo announced the closure of the Nintendo TVii, a service that let users interact with content they watch on TV using the GamePad controller.
“After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT. At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community,” said Miiverse representative Sarah.
A system update will remove the TVii functions from the GamePad. “At 12:00pm PT on August 11, 2015, the Nintendo TVii service will no longer be accessible. Soon after, a system update will remove the Nintendo TVii icon from the Wii U Menu and the Wii U GamePad controller’s HOME Button Menu,” says a Nintendo support page.
The closure of this service will not affect other applications such as Netflix.
