The Entertainment Software Association, the association representing the video game industry in the US, announced attendance went up this year to 52,200 during E3 2015. One of the key factors that helped achieve the highest number of attendees since 2008 is the invitation of fans (aka “prosumers”) by game companies for the very first time in the history of E3 with 4,000 to 5,000 attendees. In the last 10 years, the last two times the number of attendees has passed over 50,000 were back during E3 2005 with 70,000 and E3 2006 with 65,000.
“More than any other E3, this year was about the gamer. E3 demonstrated both the remarkable transformation of entertainment taking place on all video game platforms-virtual reality, augmented reality, hardware, mobile and handheld-and awesome games,” mentioned Michael D. Gallagher, President and CEO of the ESA. “As a driving force for technological and entertainment trends across the globe, the video game industry clearly demonstrated how it is revolutionizing the way people consume, engage and interact with media. Congratulations to our incredibly creative exhibitors, members, partners and the millions of video game consumers who celebrated a spectacular E3 event.”
