Desura’s parent company, Bad Juju, has filed for bankruptcy after months of complaints from game developers not receiving payments on time since late last year.
Bad Juju has been facing various problems (office relocation, hospitalization of company CEO) since it acquired Desura from Linden Lab late last year which have caused delays.
The announcement surprised Lisa Morrison, the one in charge of developer relations at Bad Juju. She told Gamasutra: “I asked Tony [Novak, CEO of Bad Juju] for confirmation and all he could tell me was, ‘The lawyers have said I can’t say anything or answer any questions yet, but yes it’s true.’”
Bad Juju became synonymous with bankruptcy today after Graeme Boxall, in charge of game deals site Indie Royale, tweeted “If you Google, Bad Juju bankruptcy, you find some very unfortunate news.” The message leads to this site: https://www.inforuptcy.com/community/bankruptcy-attorneys-and-news-15-12823-Bad-JuJu-Games–Inc—cacbke_1706672.
