The messaging service WhatsApp has reached over 800 million active users monthly. The CEO of the Facebook-owned company, Jan Koum, released a short statement via the social network. He also wanted people to be sure people and the press knew the difference between active and registered users.
WhatsApp has been able to reach more frequent users than current competitors Twitter and others. The app, which lets people send text messages online without the use of a mobile provider’s texting charges, has reached 800 million users faster than when it reached 700 million frequent users in January.
The messaging app is currently available on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, and specific Nokia devices.
