The EA Sports golf franchise used to have Tiger Woods attached to its name until the golfer’s personal problems were revealed. With the abrupt ending of sponsorship with Electronic Arts, Tiger was no longer part of EA and the golf franchise has not had another successful golfer to attach its title to, until today, that is.
EA Sports revealed today the collaboration of a 4-time major champion to rename the franchise EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
“I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR,” McIlroy said. “This is a great honor, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”
What is also new in the franchise is the game engine. The Frostbite engine, according to the game’s executive producer, “drastically improves all facets of the game, from core gameplay to opportunities for brand-new modes and features.”
The title, being developed by EA Tiburon in Orlando, FL, will be released in June 2015.
