An online article published at The Japan Times says Nintendo has plans to purchase ‘free-form’ LCD screens from the people at Sharp.
The free-form display, according to sources, could be used for the next generation of portable game devices (what would come after the Nintendo 3DS family of devices), or for Nintendo’s upcoming QOL (Quality of Life) sleep product.
Unlike regular LCDs, the free-form display demoed earlier this year “has a bezel that can be bent, allowing for freedom of design,” the post says.
Another source mentioned Nintendo “is considering creating a hole at the center of the display, making it doughnut-shaped.”
Nintendo will become Sharp’s first client in the sale of this new LCD technology.
