The release of Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS is now a reality, at least in Japan. Meanwhile in the USA and Europe, some Club Nintendo Platinum members are enjoying the demo version since yesterday. However, once the Wii U version arrives, 3DS players will be able to use their Nintendo portable console as a Wii U controller, according to Nintendo World Report and My Nintendo News.
A pic on Twitter appeared with text in Japanese.
Am I crazy, or does this say that if you connect your 3DS with your Wii U, that you can use your 3DS as a controller? pic.twitter.com/Cg4G7cjSYL

An English-language version of the image appeared yesterday as well.
Besides the use of the 3DS as an additional controller for the Wii U version, the 3DS will also be used to exchange custom fighters. Somehow, the Amiibo figures will also work on the 3DS.
