It seems as if Capcom wants to give the delivery of episodic content a try. Though the company has offered lots of downloadable content for some of its games, especially the Street Fighter series, delivering a game in chapters is something the Japanese publisher and developer has seldom tried. With Phoenix Wright games, mobile players have been able to buy chapters. However, this doesn’t mean Capcom can’t try it once on multiple consoles.
Capcom announced yesterday it will be offering episodic content for the upcoming title Resident Evil Revelations 2 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 & Xbox One. The chapters will be released “as a weekly series of episodic downloads,” with the option to buy the entire game (called Complete Season) and download it as soon as soon as it makes it online. Also, gamers will have the option to get a physical disc version of the game if they so desire. Both the Complete Season and the disc version will come with extra game content, especially the physical copy one. More details about the additional content will be announced in the weeks and months prior to the game’s launch.
As for the prices:
Each of the 4 weekly episodes: $5.99
The Complete Season (all 4 episodes and extra content): $24.99
The disc version (all 4 episodes and even more extra content: $39.99
In the upcoming RE game, Claire Redfield makes her return, this time working for the anti-bioterrorism organization Terra Save, and recruits Moira Burton (daughter of Barry Burton). During Moira’s welcome party at Terra Save, unknown armed forces attacked and both her and Claire become unconscious. As they wake up, they find themselves in a detention facility.
