A recent report posted on GiantBomb.com states game industry veterans Neversoft and Infinity Ward will merge, making way to a new Infinity Ward and a good-bye to the Neversoft name forever.
With the merge, Neversoft, known for its work as developer of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skate games, will cease to exist, according to a document that was obtained by GiantBomb. The newly merged company will keep the name of Infinity Ward after both become one.
According to the revealed document, Eric Hirshbert, Activision Publishing CEO, said: “As you know, Neversoft and Infinity Ward teamed up for the development of Call of Duty: Ghosts, and through that process, it became clear that the two studios have very complementary skill sets. Between these two excellent studios, it seemed like a single ‘super-studio’ could emerge.”
Also during the transition, current Neversoft studio head Joel Jewett and studio director Scott Pease will leave the game industry after they “have made the difficult decision to retire.” They are both expected to say adiós to Neversoft later this year.
After almost 20 years, Neversoft will be no more.
