Comic fans may be surprised about the acquisition of comiXology by Amazon. ComiXology is a company that offers digital versions of comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics, Marvel, other top companies and independent creators. Comic book fans may remember the server outage problem the company had last year when it was giving away issue #1 of many Marvel Comics.
As a subsidiary of Amazon, the future seems brighter for the digital comic book distribution company. “ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms,” said the co-founder and CEO of comiXology, David Steinberger. “There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels.”
“Amazon and comiXology share a passion for reinventing reading in a digital world,” said Amazon Vice President of Content Acquisition and Independent Publishing, David Naggar. “We’ve long admired the passion comiXology brings to changing the way we buy and read comics and graphic novels. We look forward to investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.”
The termos of the acquisition were not revealed. The main office of Comixology will still remain in New York.
