Today, Microsoft announced the fate of the SkyDrive name.
The software company’s online storage service will have its name changed from SkyDrive to OneDrive, says Ryan Gavin, MS General Manager for Cosumer Apps and Services, after the British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) stated months ago that Microsoft was using its trademark.
Why call it OneDrive? According to the blog post, it’s “one place for all of your photos and videos. One place for all of your documents. One place that is seamlessly connected across all the devices you use. You want OneDrive for everything in your life.”
Microsoft will deliver more announcement in the upcoming weeks. Current users of SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro will not be affected.
