Earlier today, Sony Online Entertainment made the decision to shut down four of its massive multiplayer online games. The four games affected by the decision of SOE are: Free Realms (also available on the PS3), Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Wizardry Online, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. The first two titles will be shutting down on March 31, and the last two titles on July 31st.
Many users should be sad about the closing of the games, but there are reasons for the closures:
*Free Realms “has reached a point in its life cycle where players are moving on to other games.”
* Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures: less people playing the game; they’re “growing up and moving on.”
* Wizardry Online: No explanation given, but players will have their accounts upgraded to SOE’s new All Access membership.
* Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: a decreasing player population along with the expenses for updating the game.
