The streaming service that did let people played some of the company’s games using a web browser has closed its doors. Square Enix decided to shut down CoreOnline due to the lack of interest by users. The service was actually discontinued at the end of November but it is recently making headlines because some people have just noticed the shutdown.
The service did let people play for free up to 20 minutes, buy games, or pay a monthly subscription fee of $2.99 . Among the titles in the lineup were: Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas.
There are no plans to bring back ComeOnline in the near future, says SE. Project Flare, a cloud service announced by Square Enix last November could be another reason for the closure of CoreOnline.
