Only if you were an 80’s geek you will recognize many or all of the references seen in the making of this Kickstarter project. Titled Kung Fury, this film in the works brings back many of the things that made the 80’s a cool decade in many ways: MS-DOS commands and 5′ 1/4″ disks and TRS-80 cartridges, Nintendo’s Power Glove for the NES, Hitler (who happened to be a character in the Japanese version of Capcom’s Bionic Commando for the NES), fast cars as in Miami Vice and Back to the Future, flying kicks as in Double Dragon and Final Fight, big portable stereos, an arcade machine, a PC with an x86-processor, CRT monitors, and so much more.
The name of the film should reminds fans of the two Kung-Fu TV series with David Carradine. So, what is the film about? According to its Kickstarter page:
KUNG FURY is an over-the-top action comedy written and directed by David Sandberg. The movie features: arcade-robots, dinosaurs, nazis, vikings, norse gods, mutants and a super kung fu-cop called Kung Fury, all wrapped up in an 80s style action packed adventure.
In this 30-minute action/comedy film, a friend of Kung Fury is killed by evil mastermind kung-fu master Adolf Hitler, aka Kung Führer. The main character travels back in time to Nazi Germany to get his revenge on Hitler and defeat the Nazi empire once and for all.
As with many videos seen online, they are done with a limited budget. All of the videos depend on CGI for background scenes and other special effects.
