[EN]: Before Google became synonymous with web search, there were some sites people used to use to do their daily searching activities, like Yahoo!, Infoseek, Excite, Lycos and Altavista, but today, when Yahoo! announced it will discontinue many of its online services, a piece of the Internet will become history soon.
Yahoo!, under the command of its CEO Marissa Mayer, said it will shut down the Altavista site along with eleven other services.
Mayer is taking a page from her former employer Google when revealing a list of services that will no longer continue. Altavista was one of the premier sites to look for until Google arrived into the web scene. It started as property of Digital Equiptment Corp, in 1995 and was sold in 1999 to Compaq. Later, Compaq sold a majority stake to CMGI. After being bought by Overture in February 2003, Yahoo bought Overture and its properties (including AltaVista) in July 2003.
It is too bad seeing one of the first well-known sites say adiós. Hasta la vista, AltaVista.

Es una lástima ver a uno de los primeros sitios bien conocidos decirle adiós . Hasta la vista, AltaVista.
