[EN]: The Wall Street Journal has once again received more info about features in the Next PlayStation ahead of the February 20 presentation. This time, a WSJ article posted online says Sony’s upcoming game system will let users “play games delivered over the Internet,” according to people who are familiar with the game company’s agenda.
The post also says “the streaming service, they (the sources) added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.”
Does this mean the next PlayStation will not read PS3 games? I hope not; many gamers would like retro-compatibility, especially the ones who live in other countries where the internet service providers put limits on how much data can be used. People who are subscribed to DSL services may have a bad time playing intensive online games.
One advantage of streaming is that it can keep the original graphics quality of a game. Its main drawback: it would require an always-on internet connection.
Will we have to buy again our PS3 games to be used with Gaikai tech? Maybe. Will we need a subscription to PSN to play streamed PS3 games? I hope not. We’ll know more on February 20th.
