[EN]: THQ is about to say adiós to the game industry. After failed attempts to save itself from bankruptcy, THQ, via the company president’s email, said the company will be no more.
The proposed sales of its assets or intelelectual propoerties are as follow:
- Sega will buy Relic , the creator of Company of Heroes & of Warhammer 40,000 games, for $26.6 million.
- Ubisoft will buy the rights for the South Park: The Stick of Truth game (for $3.2 million), as well as THQ Montreal (for $2.5 million).
- Crytek will buy the rights of Homefront 2, a game it is currently developing, for $500,000.
- Take-Two will buy Evolve, a game in the works by Turtle Rock Studios (the original makers of Leaf 4 Dead), for $10.8 million.
- Koch Media, under the Deep Silver label, will buy developer Volition known for Saints Row (for $22.3 million) and its Metro franchise for ($5.8 million).
Most employees working on the mentioned franchises will be offered positions at those companies. Other employees outside these projects will lose their jobs.
Though it would have been better for THQ to sell itself to a single company to keep the THQ name alive, it just won’t happen. It is sad to see a game company close down its doors, especially one that has been in the industry since the late 80s. Its other franchises have not been sold yet, nothing has been said about who will take over the WWE games.
