A URL redirecting site is saying sayonara. Since yesterday, Tr.im no longer allows users to create new short links, but the already-created ones will continue to be functional for a while longer. After the end of the year, the short tr.im links may no longer work. According to the messages posted on its blog, parent company Nambu stated no one was interested in buying tr.im, now that bit.ly has become the default URL shortening service for Twitter after taking away the number one position from former leader TinyURL.com. The latest Twetmeme.com statistics show Bit.ly has a wide lead and it’s currently at first place with 79.73%, while TinyURL only counts with 13.65% of all short links on Twitter. Other services such as is.gd, ow.ly and ff.im are among the top 5 URL shortening services with 2.45%, 2.27% and 1.9% respectively. Tr.im does not figure on these stats.
A statement on its blog says “What is the point? With bit.ly the Twitter default, and with us having no inside connection to Twitter, tr.im will lose over the the long-run no matter how good it may or may not be at this moment, or in the future.” It has been said Twitter may buy bit.ly.

Según los mensajes publicados en su blog, la empresa matriz Nambu dijo que nadie estaba interesado en comprar tr.im ya que bit.ly se ha convertido en el servicio de reducción de direcciones URL por defecto para Twitter luego de quitarle la posición número uno al ex líder TinyURL.com. Las últimas estadísticas de Twetmeme.com muestran que Bit.ly ha obtenido una amplia ventaja y que actualmente se encuentra en primer lugar con un 79,73%, mientras que TinyURL sólo cuenta con 13,65% de todos los enlaces cortos en Twitter. Otros servicios tales como is.gd, ow.ly y ff.im se están entre los mejores 5 servicios de reducción de direcciones URL con 2,45%, 2,27% y 1,9% respectivamente. Tr.im no se encuentra en estas cifras estadísticas.
Una declaración en su blog dice: “¿Qué sentido tiene? Con Bit.ly como el servicio por defecto para Twitter, y con nosotros sin tener alguna conexión interna con Twitter, tr.im perderá durante el largo plazo sin importar lo bueno que pueda ser o no en este momento, o en el futuro”. Se ha dicho que Twitter quizás compre bit.ly.
