According to Game Politics and other sources, the president has been trying to send a message to parents for their kids to stop playing video as much and instead for them to read a book or do exercises. Yes, reading books is an important step to our children’s learning process, while exercises keep us healthy. However, it seems the president has not taken a complete look at what the Wii has been doing since its arrival. At least for me, he hasn’t seen the impact the Wii has brought to our homes, not just to hardcore gamers also at people of all ages (he’s got one at the White House, but I wonder how often he plays a game or two with his two daughters). After all, the Wii came with the motion-sensor controller, the Wiimote, along with the Nunchuk, so that people can get up from the couch literally in order to be physically active. Microsoft and Sony also want a piece of the action.

Perhaps it’s time to show the president some games so we players can make him correct his current statement. At least Peter Moore, a former P.E. (physical education) high school teacher and current president of EA Sports, knows what exercises and videogames are all about. Moore, in his EA blog, had lots of things to say. Here is one of his most important statements:  “As a father of three and someone who spends many a morning or lunch hour out on a run and/or in the gym, I applaud the President urging Americans to get off the couch and get active.  Of course, I can’t resist pointing out that while I’ve always wholeheartedly endorsed moderation in anything you do, including playing games, it may be time for the President and his family to put their Wii to good use and fire up the 30-Day Challenge with EA SPORTS Active.  This is a “game” even the President may not want to “step away” from.”

Is Obama ready for this challenge?
