(Minato-ku, Tokyo; Shigekazu Takeuchi and Charles Falcetti Jr., Representative Directors) are pleased to announce that their co-produced CG-animated film Resident Evil: Degeneration (Biohazard: Degeneration in Japan) has shipped over 1.5 million units worldwide on DVD, Blu-ray Disc™ and UMD.
Resident Evil: Degeneration is the first full-length CG animated film based on the popular Resident Evil video game franchise. The film was first shown in limited release in Japan at digital cinemas starting on October 18, 2008, and during its two-week run, every showing was sold out.
Following the Japanese release on December 26, 2008, Resident Evil: Degeneration was released for home viewing in North America and Europe. Despite the recent global economic downturn, Resident Evil fans showed their support by purchasing over 1.5 million copies of Resident Evil: Degeneration. In addition, the Blu-ray Disc™ version received many accolades, including being awarded the first Digital Entertainment Group Japan (DEG Japan) Award – Blu-ray Prize for Best Interactivity.
The Resident Evil series has been thrilling fans since 1996 when it introduced the survival horror genre to home video game consoles. The series has collectively shipped over 35.5 million units worldwide.
The Resident Evil franchise has continually delivered top-rated entertainment experiences to the world market via Capcom’s video games and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s live-action Resident Evil films. The success of Resident Evil: Degeneration is another example of the positive results of Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s collaborative business enterprises.
