– The Collaboration that Crossed Industry Borders is Back in Session –
Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is proud to announce a second collaboration with the Takarazuka Revue on “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2”, a sequel to the very successful “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” musical. The sequel will be performed at both the Takarazuka Bow Hall and at the Takarazuka Revue’s Akasaka ACT Theatre in Tokyo.
The decision to produce a sequel was based on the positive feedback from fans of the original. The combination of Capcom’s story about a passionate young attorney who must defend those who are wrongly accused with elements of love and romance that the Takarazuka Revue provides led to tickets selling out on the first day.
In the “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” game, the objective of the main character is to fight for justice in court on behalf of a client who has been falsely accused. Since the first entry in the series made its debut in October 2001, the “Ace Attorney” series has shipped more than 3.2 million units worldwide (as of December 31, 2008), making it one of Capcom’s most successful properties. The series has also inspired successful cell phone games, comic books, novels, and a variety of merchandise. In addition, a performance was held by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra of the music and sounds used in “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” games.
The Takarazuka Revue is highly regarded in Japan for putting on stunning plays of various genres. It is one of Japan’s most well known theater groups and has a large number of fans throughout the country. The lead role in the sequel will once again be played by the Snow Troupe’s Tomu Ranju, and written and directed by Kei Suzuki.
As always, Capcom will continue pursuing its “One Property with Multiple Uses” strategy, in which the company’s large selection of unique properties is also developed for movies, animation, publications, cell phone games, merchandise, and various other applications. Basing operations on this strategy creates numerous opportunities to increase profits through expanding the range of customers who enjoy Capcom properties. Capcom will continue to employ this strategy to both maximize the value of its content and achieve more growth in sales and earnings.
