The old E3 was an awesome show. It was huge and exciting. Lots of game companies were present to show off their products, and some of them did whatever they were able to do just to capture the attention of the gamers. They had big monitors and lots of TVs and consoles to play with. Some of them required waiting in line for over an hour or two or even three. I definitively remember the long lines in Nintendo’s area. Media people did not have to wait that long. In my case, let’s say my press pass gave me an advantage. E3 was also known because of some special people. The presence of the booth babes had become a tradition at the event. I remember the Call of Duty and Tecmo ones. Some Hollywood celebrities were there as well. At E3, I had the opportunity to speak with programmers, graphic artists and their companies’ public relations representatives. I also got to talk to personalities from G4 and to reporters and columnists from the US and many parts of the world. I even got to see Shigeru Miyamoto. I think he was in a hurry looking for someone. Before this, I had never been at an expo so electrifying or at a city so enormous and filled with exhilaration in many ways. It was one of the best moments I’ve ever had.

The last two E3 events have not been as glamorous as the ones before, and only a small fraction of the 60,000 visitors at E3 2006 got to attend this year. After listening to many negative comments from important people at gaming companies, the ESA seems to have now noticed their mistakes and might be doing something to correct them. According to Kotaku, E3 might return to what it used to be before. It also seems like the ESA is thinking about the possibility of giving access to the public for the very first time. If this is true, the dream of a lifetime for many gamers to attend E3 could finally be achieved.
