Sony: Credit card data encrypted, not so for personal info | Datos de tarjetas de créditos encriptadas, pero no los de información personal

English

In a recent blog post on its web sites, Sony Computer Entertainment America got to share more info about the criminal intrusion to the Playstation Network that worries many users about the illegal access to clients’ personal info.

One of the statements on Sony’s web site may give a bit of comfort, at least when it’s about access to credit credit info: “All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken.”

However, the same cannot be said about other yet important info: “The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack.”

Sony has asked for cooperation to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in San Diego, CA, to solve this serious problem. Meanwhile, some politicians have asked for an explanantion in the US and UK. The subject of electronic data is a very delicate one and of utmost importance for the British people, and they can count on the Data Privacy Act for support.

Expert Gran Turismo® 5 Drivers to Compete for a Chance to Go Pro in GT Academy National Event

With More Than 50,000 Registered Players, 32 Finalists to Race in Live Gran Turismo® 5 Competition in Orlando, March 22 & 23

FOSTER CITY, Calif., March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) and Polyphony Digital Inc., in collaboration with Nissan North America, revealed today the 32 contestants that have qualified for the final gaming round in Phase One of GT Academy. Finalists will race using select Nissan vehicles appearing in Gran Turismo® 5, available exclusively on the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system. By competing in online time trials, the finalists (eight per region) achieved the fastest lap times in the US and are now one step closer to becoming a driver on a professional racing team. The finalists will take part in a live head-to-head competition at the GT Academy National Finals event on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22 & 23, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

More than 53,000 gaming and racing fans across the country competed in the Round 1 online time trial events within Gran Turismo 5 for a chance to make their dreams of becoming a race car driver with a professional team a reality. The National finalists represent an elite group of Gran Turismo players who possess truly amazing driving skills. Competitors were separated by as little as a few hundredths of a second, which became the only difference whether they advanced in the competition.

“We are blown away by the passion and enthusiasm our fans have for GT Academy,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. “Gran Turismo 5′s attention to detail and realism are second to none, providing the most comprehensive racing experience available and serving as a key component to the GT Academy experience. We look forward to these top drivers competing for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a pro race car driver.”

“The response to GT Academy has been amazing,” said Jon Brancheau, Vice President Marketing, Nissan. “Innovative promotions like this connect with our customers and reinforce our brand promise of performance and innovation. I’m looking forward to meeting the 32 finalists and experiencing the excitement of the head to head finals.”

During the National Finals Event, the 32 contestants will be divided into groups of four and will race in a series of live head-to-head races in Gran Turismo 5. Racing Nissan vehicles, each contestant will earn points based on the place they finish. As race difficulty increases, contestants with the fewest points at the end of each round will be eliminated until 16 remain.

The 16 finalists will advance to Phase Two of GT Academy, where they will compete against each other in a series of challenges, going behind-the-wheel of real Nissan race cars, for a chance to become a professional race car driver and the official GT Academy winner for the U.S. The winner will have the opportunity to train with an elite racing team and will work towards a debut as part of a professional team. (SCE) today announced that the cumulative sales of PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system reached 150 million units*(1) worldwide, as of January 31, 2011. This incredible milestone was reached in 10 years and 11 months since PlayStation 2′s release in Japan in March 2000.

PlayStation®Rewards Gives Loyal PlayStation® Fans a New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

October 27, 2010 – Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC (SCEA) today unveiled its new loyalty program, PlayStation®Rewards, designed to give PlayStation® fans in the United States the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards based on a variety of PlayStation-centric activity they engage in across the PlayStation ecosystem.

PlayStation Rewards will begin as an invitation-only beta, including early adopters of PlayStation®Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members, who will have the chance to help shape the program and get a head start on obtaining exclusive rewards. The full public launch is scheduled for Spring 2011, when registered PlayStation®Network fans will be able to join the free loyalty program. During the beta phase, the program will be focused on rewarding activity from PlayStation®3 (PS3™) owners, eventually adding in PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) owners over time.

There are three reward tiers for PlayStation Reward members to attain, consisting of “Select,” “Pro” and “Legendary,” in increasing order. Members advance through each tier based on their level of engagement and actions across the PlayStation ecosystem, including playing new games for the first time, buying content from PlayStation Network in PlayStation®Store or PlayStation®Home, downloading movies and TV shows, or engaging in communication with PlayStation like taking surveys, for example. As their status increases, so do the rewards. Members can go to their profile page and look at the reward progress meter to find their current status level and see how close they are to reaching the next level.

Everyone who participates in PlayStation Rewards has the opportunity to earn a wide range of exclusive rewards. Some examples include exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program, dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content, as well as the opportunity to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways, the first of which is an all expenses paid trip to be PlayStation’s guest at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

“PlayStation’s most important asset is its loyal fans and PlayStation Rewards gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their amazing passion and desire to continually evolve the gaming world,” said Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network. “We can’t thank our fans enough for the feedback they have given us over the years and look forward to even more dialog to help us evolve PlayStation Rewards to make it the best possible loyalty program it can be.”
