The 2011 INTO THE PIXEL COLLECTION AND WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The AIAS and ESA Celebrate Fine Art in Video Games
CALABASAS, Calif – May 25, 2011 – For the 2011 Into the Pixel (ITP), 17 works of video game art have been selected for this prestigious collection, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a game artist. Now in its eighth year, the ITP – a collaboration between the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) – is the only juried art exhibition that brings together experts from the traditional fine art world and the interactive entertainment industry to display and discuss the art of the video game. The 2011 Into the Pixel collection will be unveiled and presented at the annual E3 Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 7-9, 2011 in the Concourse Foyer.
“Now that public institutions have accepted video games as a legitimate form of art, there is no question that video game art has and will continue to have a place in the contemporary art scene,” said Martin Rae, president, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. “The AIAS is pleased to partner with the ESA in this celebration, and is looking forward to continue pushing the recognition of our artist members’ efforts.”
“Into the Pixel is the industry’s premier showcase for the art of computer and video games and celebration of the artists whose talent creates these stunning images,” said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, the trade association representing U.S. computer and video game publishers and the owner of the E3 Expo. “ESA is proud to partner with AIAS to facilitate this valuable intersection between the traditional and digital art worlds.”
“Into the Pixel showcases the incredible creativity, skill and artistic talent that pervades in the video game industry,” said Glenn Phillips, Senior Project Specialist & Consulting Curator, Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art, Getty Research Institute. “You really see that there are great artists working across every genre of video games, and at every stage of the production process.”

Original BioShock(R) Video Game Included in Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Upcoming “The Art of Video Games” Exhibit
NEW YORK, May 20, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — 2K Games today announced that the winner of the 2007 Game Critics Game of the Year award, BioShock(R), has been selected for inclusion in the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s “The Art of Video Games” exhibit that will be on display in Washington, D.C., March 16, 2012 through September 30, 2012. Along with other games selected for this honor, BioShock will represent the action genre on the current generation of gaming platforms.
BioShock was developed by Irrational Games, one of the industry’s leading studios, and has sold over 4 million units since its release in 2007. Of the 240 titles selected by the exhibition curator, Chris Melissinos, and reviewed by the exhibition’s advisory group consisting of game developers, designers, industry pioneers and journalists, fans cast their vote and selected 80 games to represent the industry in one of the first exhibitions to explore the forty-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium.
“The thought of seeing BioShock on display next to Georgia O’Keeffe and Thomas Hart Benton is, well, humbling,” said Ken Levine, president and creative director of Irrational Games. “The fact that gamers put us there makes it all the better.”
In BioShock, players fight to survive in the failed underwater utopia of Rapture, a once-glorious city that had since been torn apart by civil war and populated with genetically modified enemies. In 2012, players will leave Rapture to head to the skies of Columbia, when Irrational Games unleashes the newest entry into the BioShock series -BioShock Infinite(R).
“When I worked to put together the list of games, with input from the advisory group, for ‘The Art of Video Games,’ I looked for games that ran the gamut of art, social commentary, storytelling and artistic license, and BioShockcombined these elements in new ways,” said Melissinos. “Ultimately, the fans got the final say regarding the games they believe best represent the medium and we’re extremely pleased with the results.”

About BioShock
BioShock is the “genetically enhanced” first-person shooter that lets players do things never before possible in the genre: turn everything into a weapon, biologically modify their character’s body with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade weapons and craft new ammo variants, and experiment with different battle techniques.
Players experience the game as a castaway in Rapture, an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified “splicers” and deadly security systems, players will have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. No encounter ever plays out the same, and no two gamers will play the game the same way.
BioShock is currently available and rated M for Mature by the ESRB. For additional game details, visitwww.2kgames.com/bioshock/bioshock.html.

The player assumes the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to Columbia to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. He will develop a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt will learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

We are pleased to announce during this week’s Mega Man 10 launch that the rumors are true! Mega Man 10 does indeed have an additional character you can play as, and that character is Bass! On April 5 th, users can download Bass for 200 Wii points.
Dr. Wily designed Bass with Mega Man’s abilities in mind. Of course there’s a bitter rivalry between the two, although Bass will help Mega Man out if he sees a benefit for himself.
Bass uses a weapon called the Bass Buster, which is a lot like the Mega Buster except that it fires faster and can fire upwards and diagonally (7 directions in all). He can also use the Bass Buster to shoot-down enemy attacks! He uses dash to avoid enemy advances. He can also copy the weapons of the bosses in the game after defeating them, just like Mega Man can. When he combines with his robotic canine pal Treble, he can fly and shoot more powerful projectiles with his buster.
About Mega Man 10
Set within the zany Mega Man universe, it comes as no surprise that robotic shenanigans are afoot once again. The year is 20XX and a suspicious outbreak of Roboenza, a Robot Flu, has broken out. It spreads through the world like wildfire bringing down robots everywhere. People who have relied on helpful robots for ages are unnerved trying to live their lives without their robot assistance. But robots that would be aiding in the development of a vaccine can’t do their jobs. One month after the outbreak, the situation worsens even more. Infected robots have gone out of control, destroying the city and holding it hostage! Who is behind this mess? It’s up to Mega Man to take on this sinister threat and get to the bottom of this viral mystery.
