Nintendo: “Mario Kart 7″ – Update | Actualización v.1.1

[EN]: Nintendo has released just this morning the first update for Mario Kart 7, the first one for a 3DS game. This update eliminates shortcuts that allowed people to skip some parts in certain tracks (Wuhu Island Loop, Wuhu Mountain Loop, and GBA Bowser Castle 1) during online  multiplayer competitions.

In order to get this update, gamers must download the system update first (via System Settings –> Other Settings –> Press “4″ –> Select “System Updates). This update will let users download patches from the Nintendo eShop and save them on SD cards.

Without the game update, players will only be able to play single-player and local multiplayer modes, but will not compete in online matches with others.

For gamers who are unaware of this glitch and may have found out recently because of this update, they will be feeling better knowing other players won’t be taking advantage of it anymore.

U.S. Army: “America’s Army 3″ – Update | Actualización

From/De: U.S. Army

U.S. Army Releases America’s Army 3.1

Huntsville, AL (June 14, 2011) - The U.S. Army has released a major update to the  America’s Army  3 PC Game. This new AA3 update includes two new multiplayer maps, Shantytown and Stronghold, and a number of new features including new gameplay for “Every Soldier a Sensor.” The AA3 game can be downloaded free from Steam (www.americasarmy.com/steam) and from Deploy Client partners listed on the website (www.americasarmy.com/downloads).

Every Soldier a Sensor Gameplay
“Every Soldier a Sensor” or ES2 teaches that with all the advanced technology used by the U.S. Army, every Soldier is the best possible sensor on the battlefield. By observation, Soldiers are able to detect suspicious or important changes in their surroundings, however small. When this information is reported back to leaders, it allows them to construct a clearer picture of the battlefield making it safer for fellow Soldiers and civilians alike.

The ES2 gameplay in  AA3 brings awareness of the importance of every Soldier being observant on every mission. During AA3  gameplay, players will be rewarded for observing and reporting back things that they may come across during the mission that are suspicious or out-of-place. The player must determine what the object is, and report it if necessary. Many objects are false alarms and provide no benefit. Others are possible Intel such as NME documents or equipment and will grant the player a round bonus. Some gear or inventory items provide an immediate benefit such as ammo, explosives or IFAKS. To learn more about ES2, players will experience ES2 training as part of the MOUT training exercise.

New Maps
Shantytown is a rainy, close-quarters battle map which includes mission types for VIP and Activated objectives (where players interact with items to fulfill the mission). In this map, refugees fleeing oppression from the Czervenian government have established a makeshift slum settlement in the RDO city of Mozeizli. The refugees have lately moved into better living quarters established by U.S. and coalition forces and the “Shantytown” has since been abandoned. But, NME operatives are believed to have infiltrated and set up links to enemy espionage networks in the deserted area. In Shantytown, players will need to take advantage of the in-game communication and work together as a team relying heavily on concealment and speed as they navigate this maze of plywood shacks, containers and corrugated sheet metal.

Stronghold is a large map that takes place on the cobblestone streets of the occupied RDO city of Ranaliv where numerous alleys, terraces, balconies, and lofty spires provide a multitude of challenges and opportunities for teams to work together to accomplish the mission. Most of the population of this old city has fled, leaving the town and historical sites open to fortification by enemy forces. An imposing 14th century stone fortress, clock tower and fortress turrets will be favorite overwatch positions so players must be prepared to defend against NME marksmen. Players will also make good use of cover inside structures in the commercial and residential districts, advancing as a team from building to building as they race to complete the mission objectives.
Additional Features

  • New Achievement Coins - New achievement coins are awarded to the player for ES2 gameplay achievements were added into the game. A few of these achievements include Clean Sweep (awarded when a team reports all the ES2 objects in a single round), What’s That (awarded when a Soldier reports his/her first ES2 object) and What’s Yours is Mine (awarded when a Soldier lets teammates take all of the items in an ES2 object they have reported). Players will also be able to earn Soldier Sensor coins in bronze, silver, gold and platinum, depending on the number of ES2 objects they report.
  • New Blue Force Tracker (BFT) Features - The BFT which provides forces with location information has been enhanced. Players may now change the zoom of the BFT or alter the transparency of the extended map using the mouse wheel. A spectator extended map has also been added.
  • Steam Leaderboards - Steam leaderboard and stats updates will now be available when running the game through Steam
  • Admin Control Panel - An Admin Control Panel has been added to allow server providers to manage servers in-game. If the user has the appropriate server access, it will appear in the main menu.
  • Performance - Updates also include a number of gameplay weapons and map performance improvements.

Mandatory PS3 Firmware Update Now Available | Actualización obligatoria de firmware para PS3 ya disponible

English | Español | Video

Sony Computer Entertainment has just made the latest PlayStation 3 update to the public in many parts of the world. After the hack into Sony’s gaming and entertainment network, Sony seems to be doing the best it can in order to satisfy its gamers. With this latest update, the PlayStation Network should be better protected with greater security features.

The following is the most recent press release by Sony:

Restoration of PlayStation®Network and Qriocity Services Begins

Increased Security Measures Implemented Before Service Restoration; Consumer Data Protection a Full-Time, Company-Wide Commitment

TOKYO, May 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will today begin a phased restoration by region of PlayStation®Network and Qriocity Services.  The phased restoration will be on a country by country basis beginning in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East.

The first phase of restored services for these countries and regions will include:

  • Sign-in for PlayStation®Network and Qriocity services, including the resetting of passwords
  • Restoration of online game-play across PS3 and PSP
  • Playback rental video content, if within rental period, of PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
  • Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity, for current subscribers, on PS3 and PC
  • Access to 3rd party services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and MLB.tv
  • ‘Friends’ category on PS3, including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc
  • PlayStation Home

Increased Security Measures

As the result of a criminal cyber attack on the company’s data-center located in San Diego, California, U.S.A., SNEI shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services on April 20, in order for the company to undergo an investigation and make enhancements to the overall security of the network infrastructure. Working closely with several respected outside security firms, the company has implemented new and additional security measures that strengthen safeguards against unauthorized activity, and provide consumers with greater protection of their personal information.

The company has made considerable enhancements to the data security, including updating and adding advanced security technologies, additional software monitoring and penetration and vulnerability testing, and increased levels of encryption and additional firewalls.  The company also added a variety of other measures to the network infrastructure including an early-warning system for unusual activity patterns that could signal an attempt to compromise the network.

“I’d like to send my sincere regret for the inconvenience this incident has caused you, and want to thank you all for the kind patience you’ve shown as we worked through the restoration process,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation.  ”I can’t thank you enough for your patience and support during this time. We know even the most loyal customers have been frustrated by this process and are anxious to use their Sony products and services again. We are taking aggressive action at all levels to address the concerns that were raised by this incident, and are making consumer data protection a full-time, company wide commitment.”

“During the past 18 months, we’ve seen a dramatic rise in the volume of cyber attacks, their sophistication and their impact on businesses. Thwarting cyber-crime requires an evolutionary approach to security that is well integrated, reduces risk exposure and improves efficiencies,” said Francis deSouza, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Security Group, Symantec. “Today’s cyber crime attacks are proving to be more covert, more targeted and better organized than those we’ve seen in years past. In working with Sony on the move of their data-center, it’s clear they’re implementing measures to reduce security risks moving forward.”

As an additional measure, Fumiaki Sakai, president of Sony Global Solutions Inc. (SGS), has been appointed acting Chief Information Security Officer of SNEI.  In addition to his current role at SGS, Mr. Sakai, in his role at SNEI, will work to further reinforce overall information security across the company’s network infrastructure.  Mr. Sakai will lead the recruiting effort in finding a new and permanent CISO for SNEI.  As CISO, Mr. Sakai will report to Tim Schaaff, president, SNEI, as well as to Mr. Shinji Hasejima, CIO, Sony Corporation.

“While we understand the importance of getting our services back online, we did not rush to do so at the expense of extensively and aggressively testing our enhanced security measures. Our consumers’ safety remains our number one priority,” Hirai continued. “We want to assure our customers that their personal information is being protected with some of the best security technologies available today, so that everyone can feel comfortable enjoying all that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer.”

The restoration of the services across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East are beginning, and consumers will be able to enjoy some of the online functionality provided by both the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.  Phased restoration in Japan and other Asian countries and regions will be announced in due course.  The company expects to have the services fully restored by the end of May 2011.

The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity account services.  The details of this program will be announced in each region shortly.

Sony: PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.30 & MLB.com App

English | Español

Today, Sony made a couple of interesting downloads available to the public. The first one is the latest firmware update for your PS3 consoles. It provides two new features: 3D stereoscopic & new “sorting options within Trophies.” The 3D feature is being released just in time for the release of Sony’s 3D Bravia TVs, while the trophies one will help facilitate sorting much easier than before with Trophy Folder (Title List), Add-on (Group List) and Trophy List.

And baseball fans who are already subscribed to MLB.com and watch the games on their PCs, will now be able to watch baseball games from the comfort of their couch in the living room via the PS3.

GeoHot revives Linux with custom PS3 update | Geohot revive Linux con actualización personalizada de PS3

English | Español

If you thought it wasn’t possible, well, you’re wrong. Earlier today, famous hacker GeoHot showed off his custom PS3 firmware update via YouTube. On his latest post, he says it only takes a customized PS3 Update (PUP) file for users to be able to keep “Install Another OS” on their non-PS3-Slim consoles. Though he hasn’t tested it on a Slim one, he says it may still work. If it does work, more users will be able to install the operating system of their choice, but Sony should already be aware of this.

Adiós, Install Another OS?!?!?!

English | Español

For Sony and the loyal owners of its current-generation console, the PlayStation 3 is not simply a gaming system or a multimedia device for the living room or bedroom. The PS3 still has some unique features no other such device has: a Blu-ray player, an easy hard-drive installation, and the Install Another OS feature. Many people who bought certain non-Slim PS3s  do get to use an operating system of their choice inside their console (such as Ubuntu or Yellow Dog Linux), but for some unspecified security reason, Sony will disable it in its next firmware update. While a few gamers on the PlayStation.Blog have accepted the company’s removal of the mentioned feature, most people are just not satisfied with it:

  • Blkant: You finally give us a firmware update and you give us nothing but this junk? Where is the meat? Where is something good in all this? What a rip…
  • sunil247: This is pure wrong… when i bought my PS3, one of the features I paid for was the ability to install Linux on the PS3.. Are you going to compensate folks who are going to loose this feature?
  • CloudStrife2009: …..the next update better make PS3 Backwards Compatible, in fact, i would pay for an update like that! But instead of a new update with new features, your taking something away….=/

An April’s Fools on Sony’s behalf?!:

  • dotCody : So, this Firmware adds nothing? Not even better music playback or some other BS? Sounds like April’s Fools to me…
  • ThE-AnNiHaL8R: wow surprised at how dumb people can get…..Hello??? April 1st? JST??? Ring any bells or knock on wood?
  • shark301: Do they celebrate April Fool’s day in Japan? I don’t get how this could be funny, if it really is a joke. Not that I use the feature, but still, odd announcement.
  • XpAcErX: They never firmware update on a PSN store release day (Thursdays), its usually done on Tuesdays. APRIL FOOLS!

Others think about certain hacker:

  • iComet: Sony Computer Entertainment vs GeoHot (PS3 hacker) Who will prevail? >:O
  • Coxrone: Sony you are afraid of that hacker Geo-hot the one who finally hacked the PS3 so now u pull this stunt seriously people wait for updates hoping they are great ones and u do this >.> it’s a shame you take one step forward and jump three back Sony.

As a fan of not just Windows-based operating systems, I believe this feature should remain for whoever is interested. Disabling this specific feature also disables one of the unique features the PS3 has against the competition. Unless this is a surprise update or an April Fool’s joke (like the EGM Sheng Long one in SF2) that will allow every PS3 owner the long-removed PS2 game compatibility feature, this just doesn’t sound like a good plan.
