NetEase Games announced today the creation of Nagoshi Studio.
The new game studio, located in Tokyo, was named for the founder of Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, Mr. Toshihiro Nagoshi.
Nagoshi, former producer of Sega’s Yakuza series, has now become the Representative Director and CEO of the new gaming studio.
According to a press release, Nagoshi Studios “will focus on developing high-quality console titles that will be released globally.”
Nagoshi has been a long-time employee at Sega since 1989. During his years at Sega, he’s had various designer, producer, director and supervisor jobs for games such as Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Lost World, Sakura Wars, and many others.
He wrote a message (archive) on the new company’s website (archive) published in Japanese and English.
Part of the message says: “One of my goals at this studio is to create an open atmosphere. This may sound like an overly simplistic goal. But even the most talented creators cannot fully unleash their abilities in isolation. I believe that the first step to creating high-quality titles and delivering the essence of entertainment with strong motivation starts with creating an open atmosphere in the studio.”
Joining Nagoshi are former Sega employees such as producer Daisuke Sato, director Taichi Ushioda, programmer Koji Tokeida, game designer Masao Shirosaki, engineer Mitsunori Fujimoto, and artists Kazuki Hosokawa, Naoki Someya and Toshihori Ando (archive).
No projects were announced yet.
