Taking place October 22-23 at the Anaheim Convention Center, BlizzCon is a celebration of the global player communities surrounding Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft(R), Diablo(R), and StarCraft(R) game universes. While tickets to the convention are currently sold out, viewers can watch at home by ordering a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket, offering over 50 hours of event coverage (including Tenacious D’s performance) globally over the Internet and also on DIRECTV(R) in the United States.

n-Space CEO: “n-Space is down, but definitely not out” | “n-Space se ha caído, pero no está vencido”

English | Español

After reading the rumors of n-Space closing down its only office (here in Central Florida), I just wasn’t sure about this. The game developer has been working on various different Nintendo DS game titles this year, some of which have already been published, but the blog posts on Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/5659586/rumor-geist-call-of-duty-ds-developer-n+space-shuts-down] and Gameblurg.net [http://www.gameblurb.net/news/game-studio-n-space-closes-their-doors/] gave me something to think about. After all, when I think about n-Space (or gaming in general), I remember Erick Dyke, co-founder and former president of n-Space, and Christopher Stapleton, the ones in charge of a Game Design class I had at the University of Central Florida back in 2001. Click link for related story: [http://elmundotech.wordpress.com/2008/11/13/erick-dyke-ucf-nspace/].

Fortunately, this was just a rumor, but the Orlando, FL, game developer has had financial problems that has caused problems for its teams: “After supporting 70-90 employees for several months without funding, Fridays layoffs were unavoidable. I will be back in the office next week, along with our core team, to firm up a few of the many deals we are negotiating. If all goes as planned we’ll be calling people back before the end of the week.”

The US economy and Apple’s App Store are two of the reasons why the gaming industry landscape has shifted, n-Space CEO Dan O’Leary states. “The games industry is, frankly, a mess.  The economy has robbed customers of disposable income, reducing the number of titles that purchased per year.  Huge budget titles have to sell massive numbers to return a profit and the App Store has disrupted our industry in the same way iTunes changed consumer expectations for music.  People that use(d) to buy many games every year now buy a few AAA titles, supplementing their need with games that are free or cost less than a pack of gum.  Anything in the “middle” is struggling.  The Wii and DS markets have nearly collapsed and 3DS is a brave new world the publishers are excited about but also very cautious to enter.”

An iPhone title will be announced later this week. n-Space has been developing Activision titles for the Nintendo DS such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and James Bond 007 Bloodstone. For more info: n-Space Blog [http://nspaceinc.wordpress.com/2010/10/09/n-space-rumor-control/]. Good thing someone at Kotaku has already gotten my message about n-Space: [http://kotaku.com/5660352/call-of-duty-ds-studio-says-theyre-not-closing] . Hi Owen!

¡Hola Owen!
