EA Sets Stage for World Domination With RISK: Factions

Globally Popular, Strategic Game of Conquest in Development for Xbox LIVE Arcade

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The EA Play Label of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced that it is bringing Hasbro’s (NYSE:HAS) globally popular strategy game, RISK, to Xbox LIVE® Arcade (XBLA) in early 2010. Featuring outlandish factions, a unique art style, new gameplay twists and off-beat humor, RISK: Factions promises to challenge and captivate both new and seasoned RISK fans on their quest for world domination.

“For the past half-century, millions of RISK fans have been consumed with ruling the world, underscoring the board game’s enduring appeal”

“For the past half-century, millions of RISK fans have been consumed with ruling the world, underscoring the board game’s enduring appeal,” said Chip Lange, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA’s Hasbro Division. “We’re now going to bring that masterpiece experience to life and add other amazing layers of XBLA-style gameplay that will take conquests to a new level, including the ability to battle players from around the globe for the first time, truly giving new meaning to the phrase ‘world domination’.”

Developed by Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers studio Stainless Games and featuring cinematics from veteran animation studio Power House Animation, RISKFactions will offer innovative ways of experiencing the timeless turn-based board game in both objective-based and world conquest modes. Players will be able to engage as one of five playable factions, each with different strengths, as they wage war on new maps with dynamic terrain in their quest for missile silos in order to strategically dominate the game. Additionally, as rivals go head-to-head during unique, animated combat missions, enemies will be able to trigger “Overkill” moments, based on the roll of the dice, and unlock avatar awards while attempting global supremacy. With a new animated art style, kooky humor and a choice of five oddball factions, RISK: Factions is sure to offer something for veteran RISK strategists and newcomers alike.

“Just as the original RISK board game broke new ground 50 years ago by being the first game to offer non-linear movement, EA is re-inventing this long-time favorite for today’s digital consumer,” said Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Gaming at Hasbro. “We expect RISKFactionsto be well received on XBLA among the strategy and simulation community.”

Activision: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief [NDS]

From/De: Activision

Activision Publishing Announces Upcoming Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief Video Game for Nintendo DS(TM)

February Release Timed to Opening Of the Highly Anticipated Film from 20th Century Fox

Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox Licensing), announced today the February 9, 2010 release of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief for the Nintendo DS(TM). Based on the first title in Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series and the highly anticipated film from 20th Century Fox, the tactical role-playing game puts players in command of Percy Jackson and his fellow demigods as they battle for survival in a contemporary world ruled by powerful Greek gods. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives in theaters everywhere February 12, 2010.

“The Percy Jackson book series has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for more than 125 weeks and the Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief film adaptation is one of the most buzzed about movies for 2010,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “We’re honored to work on such a hot property, building on the elements that fans love, to create a fantastic video game that can be played on the go.”

“Chris Columbus has made a great film that is very true to the fantastic stories in the book series,” said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President of New Media Licensing for Fox Licensing. “We needed a partner that could take this vision and translate it into a great and most importantly – fun – game for all the fans. Activision has certainly delivered.”

“The film is so action-packed that a video game is a natural extension,” added director Chris Columbus. “Activision has been the ideal partner to bring the movie to life in yet another thrilling way.”

Players in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief will adventure across America in search of Zeus’ master lightning bolt while assembling their best fighting team to go head-to-head against ruthless enemies. Joining Percy are his friends Annabeth and Grover, and plenty more allies each with “godly” abilities and battle advantages. Planning which team member to take into battle is key to survival – certain combinations of characters boost their effectiveness.

Based upon the first novel in author Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is set in a modern world where the twelve gods of Mount Olympus are alive, Percy Jackson, the teenage son of Poseidon, is suspected by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt, the universe’s most powerful weapon. Percy must prove his innocence, save his mother, and avoid a devastating war among the gods.

Google Nexus One: Adobe Flash 10.1 demo

English | Español

One of the features many iPhone users have been waiting for since the arrival of the device is Adobe’s Flash, but the lack of the plug-in in Apple’s phone doesn’t really bring the web to your hands the way it’s meant to be just yet. Adobe certainly knows that. One statement at Adobe Labs1 sums it up best: “Flash Player uses a just-in-time compiler and virtual machine within a browser plug-in to play back content on websites. Those technologies are not allowed on the iPhone at this time, so a Flash Player for iPhone is not being made available today.” In the very near future, at least, Google Nexus One users will be able to surf the web with Flash.  The following demos show a MiniClip game and a National Geographic video, both in Flash.

Link: Adobe Labs – Packager for iPhone [http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcs5/appsfor_iphone/].
