AVG 9 wrongfully states “Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online” game got malware | AVG 9 erróneamente afirma que el juego “Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online” tiene malware

English | Español

The following is an update to an earlier post about a malware detection message from AVG 9 immediately after I began to play the Unity3D-based EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online game: Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online (Open Beta) available now; AVG users beware? PGA Tour 11 (June.2010).

Update:  It seems to be AVG’s fault. I’ve had no problems whatsoever with Unity3D games previously. I have actually played some Unity3D-based games on my PC and have also downloaded and installed its Unity 2.6.1 game engine. It seemed weird to me this was happening. I hope AVG fixes this as soon as possible. I’ll go back to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online again. Here’s a response from Reza Malekzadeh at Unity:

Nintendo/Aardman Animations: Legend of Zelda – Video Clips – Flipnote Studio

From/De: Nintendo fo America via The NewsMarket

Top Animators Create Exclusive The Legend of Zelda Clips with Nintendo DSi

[21-Jan-2010] The Legend of Zelda™: Spirit Tracks recently launched for the Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ system, adding an extraordinary new chapter to one of the most beloved video game series of all time. To help celebrate the game’s release, Nintendo worked with Aardman Animations (the creators of Wallace & Gromit) to create three exclusive animations, each featuring scenarios inspired by the game and starring its iconic hero, Link™.

These three animations were created with Flipnote Studio™, a zero Nintendo DSi Points™ downloadable application for the Nintendo DSi system. A wireless broadband Internet connection is required for access to the Nintendo DSi Shop. With Flipnote Studio, anyone can draw a series of images using the Nintendo DSi touch screen to create their own custom animations, just like flipping through a series of drawings on a notepad. Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda video game series has captivated generations of video game fans, and these Flipnote Studio animations really show off the spirit of fun and adventure in the new game. Plus they’re just cool to watch, and serve as inspiration to non-expert animators who want to try their hands at creating their own animations with Flipnote Studio.

In The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, heroic Link teams with Princess Zelda™ for the first time in the 23 year history of the series, embarking on an original quest to save the land of Hyrule from ruin. This unforgettable saga allows players to navigate perilous dungeons, solve mind-bending puzzles and explore a massive world on Link’s customizable train. Tetris® Game Surpasses 100 Million Paid Mobile Downloads, Is the Best-Selling Mobile Phone Game of All Time

EA Mobile and Blue Planet Software Celebrate Industry Milestone

MONTREAL–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Blue Planet Software, Inc., the company that manages the exclusive licensing rights to the Tetris® game, and EA Mobile™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc., today announced at a press conference at the EA Montreal studio that Tetris has reached over 100 million paid downloads on mobile phones since 2005, making it the pre-eminent game for the platform. Since becoming the exclusive mobile publisher for Tetris in 2006, EA Mobile has brought a number of Tetris games to almost all mobile platforms including the App StoreSM.

“Just this past year alone our ‘Tetris League’ game in Japan has been played nearly 100 million times. As G-Mode and Blue Planet Software grow alongside each other, we hope to continue our contributions to Tetris’ recognition and popularity.”

“Tetris on mobile will never go away,” said Henk Rogers, CEO of Blue Planet Software. “As mobile devices get into the hands of more people, so does Tetris. People are always looking for ways to fill their time — be it in waiting rooms or on the bus — and with the advent of touch screens and improved platforms, our eyes are opened to a whole new way to develop games. After Tetris’ success with the Game Boy in 1989, we always hoped that potential would carry over into today’s mobile devices. It’s a testament to the game’s staying power that it remains popular on today’s most modern technology.”

Over its 25-year history, the Tetris game has been sold on almost every gaming platform. Currently, the game’s greatest growth is occurring on mobile platforms.

“Tetris is the biggest franchise in mobile gaming, which speaks to the evergreen nature of the brand and the fact that it translates to any platform,” said Adam Sussman, VP Worldwide Publishing for EA Mobile. “Our strong relationship with Blue Planet Software has enabled us to optimally adapt Tetris to the ever evolving handset market while keeping the true spirit of the game alive. 100 million paid downloads are testament to this.”

Created in 1984 by Russian-born mathematician Alexey Pajitnov, the Tetris game has become a worldwide success model for the gaming industry. Tetris was first available on mobile in 2001, the product of collaboration between Rogers and Takeshi Miyaji of Japan’s G-mode.

“Tetris provided the crucial building blocks for our company when we started 10 years ago,” said Miyaji, president of G-mode, the exclusive distributor of Tetris in Japan. “Just this past year alone our ‘Tetris League’ game in Japan has been played nearly 100 million times. As G-Mode and Blue Planet Software grow alongside each other, we hope to continue our contributions to Tetris’ recognition and popularity.”

In addition to reaching this mobile milestone, the Tetris brand has created numerous headlines in the past year. It is currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary, which officially kicked-off in June 2009 at an event attended by thousands of videogame enthusiasts and journalists from E3 in Los Angeles. And in September 2009, a scientific study published by BMC Research Notes showed that participants who played the Tetris game over time had increased efficiency and a thicker cortex in areas of the brain linked to critical thinking and coordinated movement.

This new online game from EA Tiburon does bring the feeling of playing the game on a console, except that you do it from the comfort of your own desktop or laptop PC. The 3D graphics looks great and the mouse control is very effective. No complaint there. But there is something AVG users may not expect when they are installing a version of Unity Web Player in order to play this game: a message from AVG – “Malware detected.” After I received this message, I went back to the game site to look for help. Luckily, there was live chat support. Un-luckily, I didn’t get a thorough response. Hopefully I’ll get one soon.

Hi, my name is Andy. How may I help you? [06:43:09 AM PST]
: Hi Andy. I have just found out about this open beta version of the game, but I got a problem. The game works, but I got this message from AVG: Malware detected – File name: wrap_oal.dll; threat name: alcra; category: network worm. What do I do? [06:45:17 AM]
: severity level: 4/5 [06:45:39 AM]
Andy: Please give me few moments. [06:43:10 AM]
: ok [06:46:19 AM]
Andy: Please go to task bar and stop running AVG [06:44:17 AM]
: I got two options: it says to either quarantine it or to allow it [06:47:55 AM]
Andy: Please contact your system admin. [06:46:18 AM]
Andy: Please respond if we are connected to this session. [06:50:41 AM]
: Will EA eventually contact AVG about this? I’ve been playing some Unity games and haven’t had a problem with this… until now. I was just about to post the press release I got an hour ago from EA Sports to my blog about this online game [06:54:03 AM]
Andy: I need to escalate your issue to higher level and they will get back to you via email. [06:51:50 AM]
: Ok then, because I wouldn’t want other AVG users to get a bad impression about this game if they (gamers) haven’t thoroughly play it [06:56:37 AM]
Andy: Is there anything else I may help you with? [06:54:30 AM]
: No, I guess I’ll just quarantine that file; the game sees to be working properly though [06:59:09 AM]
: Thanks for your help [06:59:16 AM]
Andy: Bye and take care. [06:56:48 AM]

Halo 3: Second Mythic Map | Segundo mapa “Mythic” – 2010.02.02

From/De: Microsoft

Second “Halo 3″ Mythic Map Pack Drops onto Xbox LIVE on February 2, 2010
“Halo” fans, make ready your battle rifles and prepare to step into an expanded fight on Xbox LIVE

LONDON – 20 January 2010 - Mythic 2 Map Pack, a Game Add-on developed by Bungie for “Halo 3” consisting of three multiplayer maps available previously only on the “Halo 3: ODST” multiplayer disc, is set to arrive on Xbox LIVE on February 2, 2010.

The release of the Mythic 2 Map Pack brings the total number of “Halo 3” multiplayer maps to 24. The Game Add-on includes three action-packed maps: Heretic, Citadel and Longshore.

- Heretic brings players to familiar ground as the “Halo 2” arena Midship returns in “Halo 3.” The stark interior of the Pious Inquisitor might appear austere on first glance, but Heretic’s symmetrical spaces require players to execute complex strategies in order to outplay their opponents.

- Citadel may be a long abandoned Forerunner stronghold, but its small, symmetrical confines are far from secure. Two opposing bases offer little safety for players looking for solace. Instead, Citadel forces small squads to stay in constant communication, keep their heads on a swivel, and be prepared to adjust combat tactics in close quarters.

- Longshore lacks the commercial ships that once made it a lucrative port for Old Mombasa, but it still bustles with activity. Designed for large-scale combat and well-suited for smaller affairs, Longshore’s multitude of industrial buildings, elevated walks, and open inlets conspire to create a complex battleground tailored for multiple combat scenarios.

Mythic 2 Map Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points. Mythic Map Pack 1 and 2 are also included in “Halo 3: ODST”, which includes the complete “Halo 3” multiplayer map collection, an all-new campaign and the incredibly popular cooperative experience, Firefight. “Halo 3: ODST” will act as a key to the upcoming “Halo: Reach” multiplayer beta which goes live later this Spring.

Additionally, beginning today “Halo” fans can contribute to Bungie’s relief efforts for Haiti by participating in the “Be a Hero” campaign on Xbox LIVE. For every 1,000 people that wear a red heart emblem and play “Halo 3” or “Halo 3: ODST” online today or tomorrow, Bungie will donate $100 to Red Cross, up to $77,000. To find out more about the “Be a Hero” campaign, visit Bungie at http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=BeAHero.
