New York, NY – June 16, 2009 – 2K Sports announced today that Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, the 2009 Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award winner and Hart Memorial Trophy candidate, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for the next iteration of the popular NHL 2K franchise, NHL® 2K10. While leading the National Hockey League (NHL) in goals scored for the second consecutive season, Ovechkin has become one of the most recognizable faces of the NHL in only his fourth season, and will bring his electrifying personality and unmatched passion for the game to NHL 2K10 this year.

“It’s a good time to be Ovi!,” said Ovechkin, left winger for the Washington Capitals. “It’s an incredible honour, and I look forward to working with 2K Sports to make NHL 2K10 the most fun and amazing hockey video game experience ever. I can’t wait to put some of my moves in there.”

In celebration of the announcement, Ovechkin will be participating in the first-ever public outdoor hockey motion capture session tonight at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from 8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. PT. Joining Ovechkin on the ice will be the Vancouver Canucks’ centre and 2009 Selke Trophy finalist, Ryan Kesler. Randy Hahn, the play-by-play commentator for the San Jose Sharks, will also participate in the session and serve as its host. Synthetic ice will be laid down at Caesars Palace to create a special hockey rink where 2K Sports’ game producers will put Ovechkin through a number of dynamic drills to capture his signature style data for NHL 2K10. The event will be free and open to the public to watch.

The 2009 NHL Awards™ will take place on Thursday, June 18 at 4:00 p.m. PT at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Ovechkin is one of three finalists that are being considered for the highly coveted Hart Memorial Trophy, an annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team. The winner is selected via a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association in all NHL cities held at the end of the regular season. Ovechkin is also a finalist for the Lester B. Pearson Award, which honors the NHL’s most outstanding player as selected by the members of the NHL Players’ Association. Ovechkin was the winner of both awards last year, and has already received this year’s Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award for leading the NHL in goals scored during the regular season.

Ovechkin, also known to fans as “Ovi”, was the first overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and is one of the most heart-pumping players to watch in the NHL today. After winning the Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year in 2005-06, Ovechkin went on to lead the NHL during the 2007–08 season with 65 goals and 112 points to capture the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award and Art Ross Trophy. That season, he also won the Lester B. Pearson Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy. He is the first player to win all four awards in the same season, and has participated in the NHL All-Star game in 2007, 2008, and 2009. This past season, Ovechkin led the NHL again with 56 goals, winning his second Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award in as many years, joining Jarome Iginla and Pavel Bure as only the third player to win the award twice, and the second player after Bure (2000–2001) to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed & sequel sale comparison

English | Español

From May 19th till the end of that month, the sales of Bionic Commando (PS3/X360) have not been satisfactory at all. Capcom should not be happy about this outcome. Since the game came, it has only sold just over 27,000 copies . While other games succeeded (UFC 2009: Undisputed & Wii Fit), BC was not even in the top 10 list (sales-wise). There have been rumors around the net stating the layoff of a great number of employees at developer Grin in the last few weeks. Due to some mixed reviews, the new version of the game received a score of 70 at Metacritic, while BC: Rearmed received great reviews averaging 85 points. What is most surprising is the fact that Capcom has sold a lot more copies of Rearmed than the new BC. In its first week, Rearmed (PSN/XBLA) sold over 130, 000 copies. This outcome could not have been in the company’s agenda.

Capcom wasn’t the only affected due to the tough economy. As a whole, the gaming industry fell by 23% in May 2009 compared to the same month last year. This outcome was already expected by many analyst. There was no sequel for Grand Theft Auto (the last one was Chinatown Wars for the DS in March) or Smash Bros. Brawl , but Wii Fit still sells.

Bionic Commando is not the only game in that situation. The sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Boom Blox had a similar outcome. The PC version of Bionic Commando comes next month. A sequel to Rearmed may be the next best thing for Capcom.

Majesco: Mad Dog McCree Gunslinger Pack

An old game that was born in the arcades makes a comeback. No, it’s not Capcom’s Forgotten Worlds nor Konami’s Sunset Riders. At least the latter one has something in common. Yes, it’s about the wild west, but it’s not cartoon-looking. If you were at the arcades in 1991, you may remember Mad Dog McCree. It was easy to recognize because of one important feature: live-action. Digital Illusions and Majesco are bringing the game this time to the Wii. Mad Dog McCree is not the only title; Mad Dog 2: The Lost Gold and The Last Bounty Hunter come with the original version.

EA: Need for Speed Shift – Driver Profile

From/De: EA

EA’s Need for Speed SHIFT Puts Racers in Control With All New Driver Profile

Los Angeles Racer Wins the Need for Speed SHIFT Competition, Drives Home in a Brand New 2009 BMW M3

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced details on the exclusive driver profile system in Need for Speed™ SHIFT. Driver profile is the ultimate extension of the true driver’s experience. Extending through the single player career and online multiplayer modes, driver profile gives each player a unique game experience based on the way each player drives on the track. This exclusive driver profile system pushes the entire racing genre forward.

During this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, EA invited attendees to participate in a Need for Speed SHIFT Hero Car Competition that showcased the driver profile. Competitors raced around the Autopolis track in the BMW M3 GT2 hero car generating the highest number of driver profile points. The winner of the Need for Speed SHIFT Hero Car Competition, Mitchell Francis, from Los Angeles won a brand new 2009 BMW M3 Coupe.

Driver profile is a tailor-made career mode based on four key game play components:

1. Personality – a player’s driving style determines whether they are an aggressive or precise driver.

2. Success – as in every race, the ultimate goal is to finish at the top of the podium.

3. Profile points – every car passed, every corner mastered, every opponent taken out generates profile points.

4. Badges – these unique icons bring individuality and style to each player’s driver profile, as each player races and completes top achievements.

As a player’s driver profile develops through the course of the game, it creates rivalries, triggers specific challenges and even unlocks vehicles and customization options. Need for Speed SHIFT’s multiple reward systems keeps players in each race regardless of their position.

“The new driver profile feature in Need for Speed SHIFT gives players full control of how they progress through game,” said Patrick Soderlund, Senior Vice President of EA Games Europe. “In SHIFT, how you drive is who you are behind the wheel.”

Need for Speed SHIFT is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and Patrick Soderlund. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers and designers that worked on the critically acclaimed games GT Legends and GTR 2. The PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) version is being developed by EA’s Bright Light studio.

Need for Speed SHIFT is scheduled to ship in Europe on September 17 and in North America on September 22 on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PC and PSP® system.
