Astro_Mike to twit from space | Astro_Mike a twitear desde el espacio

English | Español

Earlier today, someone wrote on his own Twitter page “I’m going to put my spacesuit on, next stop: Earth Orbit!!” Not all of us can actually say and do that, but Mike Massimino did it so. He is one of the astronauts inside the Space Shuttle Atlantis en route to the Hubble Telescope to make repairs and upgrades.

Astronauts have gone to space before, but the use of the internet as a medium for one of them to communicate with the rest of the world is a very interesting idea. Of course, he could have chosen the usual suspects such as Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo Messenger, but access to Twitter does not require extra software and anyone can use it. Mike just needs to login and that’s it. He could have gone to MySpace or even Facebook as well. He did not.

Twitter is an innovative service in the non-interactive social world that is so easy to use with just one purpose: to share with others what’s on your mind in a few words. If you remember the CNN vs. Ashton “Twitter Battle” and the Oprah influence (with help from Shaquille O’Neal), Massimino must have been inspired by them.

For the First Time, Users Can Mix and Match Licensed Characters

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 8, 2009 — GoAnimate.com, the online platform that enables everyone to create their own customizable animations, today announced that it has expanded its Street Fighter character offering with four new characters from Capcom Entertainment’s classic video game brand. Now fans of these popular worlds can combine characters to create the ultimate animated story, series or short form e-message.”

The Street Fighter animations continue to be among the most popular on our site, so we wanted to give the loyal Street Fighter fans a little something extra,” said Alvin Hung, Founder and CEO, GoAnimate.com. “We’ve added four new characters from the world of Street Fighter that fans will love, and we’re confident you’re going to have as much fun with them as we have.”

Evil Ryu

Evil Ryu

The New Faces
The new Street Fighter characters, which are available immediately for all users, are:

  • Evil Ryu – First featured in the Street Fighter Alpha series
  • Ken in Blue Outfit – The traditional Ken character, but in his blue uniform
  • Sakura – First appeared in the Street Fighter Alpha series, and is also a hidden character in Street Fighter IV
  • Akuma – Also known as Gouki in Japan; First debuted in Street Fighter II Turbo, and is most recently an unlockable hidden character in Street Fighter IV

“We are always exploring new and exciting ways for fans to experience our well-known properties,” said Germaine Gioia, Senior Vice President of Licensing, Capcom. “Fans have made Street Fighter one of GoAnimate’s most popular licenses and we are pleased to provide them with even more of their favorite characters to animate.”

To see the new characters, and to download images, please visit: http://press.GoAnimate.com.

Mash It Up
Many users have requested the ability to create animated mashups using characters from GoAnimate.com’s different licensed animation channels. GoAnimate.com incorporated that feedback, and now users can mix and match some of our premier licensed brands and characters – resulting in even greater possibilities for creativity. This means that Street Fighter characters can now hang out with Star Trek characters on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Star Trek characters and It’s Happy Bunny can beam down to the world of Street Fighter, or they can all join Willie Nelson and Mickey Raphael for a game of pool. Add in the original cast of politicians, celebrities, monsters, and Go!Animate animated characters, and the possibilities are endless!

“We take user feedback very seriously, and many of you requested the ability to mix and match characters from different channels to expand the potential for your animations,” said Hung. “As a result, we are pleased to announce the new mashup capabilities — and we can’t wait to see what our creative community comes up with!”

“I can guarantee that those Street Fighter and Star Trek characters have never met up with anyone like It’s Happy Bunny before,” said Jim Benton, creator of It’s Happy Bunny. “So, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when It’s Happy Bunny mixes it up with them.”
