Nintendo 3DS & Wii U: Nintendo Network, 2D Mario, NFC

The last two days have been full of Nintendo news regarding the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U.

To start, the company announced the arrival of the upcoming Wii U console for this year’s holiday season. While there is no exact date for the launch of the console, it will be released during that period in Japan, Europe, Australia and the US. It seems like the company is planning a super-effective (like Pokémon fans say) release of its new console worldwide.

The house of Mario also released a preliminary schedule of games for this year, with most new games appearing on the 3DS, and officially mentioned plans for Nintendo Network. NN will offer similar services seen on XBL and PSN such as digital distribution of games and software content (full retail and downloable games), and competitions.

For retro gamers who have had lots of fun with Super Mario 3D Land, they’ll be happy to know a new 2D side-scrolling Super Mario game is in the works. No date yet announced, only, sometime during the next fiscal year (which starts in April).

With regards to the Wii U, Iwata mentioned a feature in the tablet no one was expecting. NFC, short for Near-Field Communication, is a feature used on new smartphones using radio frequencies to establish communication among devices at close distances. Such technology could be used to obtain information from nearby cards or devices. There would be no need to enter numbers from pre-paid cards. According to the Nintendo IR release, “it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via noncontact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world. Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments.”

Los últimos dos días han estado llenos de noticias Nintendo con respecto al Nintendo 3DS y al Wii U.

Para empezar, la compañía anunció la llegada de la próxima consola Wii U para la temporada de vacaciones de este año . Aunque no hay fecha exacta para el lanzamiento de la consola, se estrenará durante ese período en Japón, Europa , Australia y los EE.UU. Parece que la compañía está planeando un lanzamiento super efectivo (como dicen los fans de Pokémon) de su nueva consola en todo el mundo.

La casa de Mario también dio a conocer un programa preliminar dejuegos para este año, con la mayoría de los nuevos juegos apareciendo en el 3DS, y oficialmente se mencionó los planes de la Red Nintendo [Nintendo Network]. NN ofrecerá servicios similares vistos en PSN y XBL tales como la distribución digital de juegos y contenido de software ( juegos completos al por menor y descargables) y competiciones.

Para los jugadores retro que han tenido un montón de diversión con Super Mario 3D Land, estarán felices de saber de un nuevo juego de desplazamiento lateral en 2D de un juego Super Mario está en marcha. The video contains a selection of areas that augment the main action in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2. This includes a range of side quests that the player can engage in, where completion will yield different rewards. Players will also find unique puzzle sections that Serah and Noel must solve during the course of their main quest to find Lightning. Serah and Noel will also traverse the new location “Serendipity,” a casino-style area with a variety of games to play including slot machines and the return of FINAL FANTASY fan favorite, Chocobo Racing.

Also included in the video is footage of Captain Cryptic’s “Confounding Quiz,” where the player must eavesdrop on the citizens of a certain city for clues as to his whereabouts, and crack his confusing conundrums to win a special reward.

2012 is an important year for the gaming industry. Many of the franchises are turning 25 this year. Though not many of them were available to us yet here in the United States, there were in Japan. Besides Double Dragon and others, there is also one franchise that has thrived along the decades bringing us great moments in role-playing games history.

Just like the Zelda 25th Anniversary logo, you might be seeing this logo in upcoming Square Enix games starting with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

Capcom has announced the date for the release of Capcom Digital Collection. Although it’s a collection of already-released games via Xbox Live, for retro gamers who still don’t own any or a few of these games, it’s a great opportunity to get them. The North American retail version of this game will be on sale starting on March 27th for the Xbox 360.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy will be the first 3DS game with both paid downloadable content and connection to the Nintendo Network.

While the back of the box (as seen on images at Andriasang.com & ZeldaInformer.com) mentions the ability to buy extra content, the front of the box does display a new Nintendo logo not officially revealed before.s the

Will the Nintendo Network be a response to Sony’s PSN and Microsoft’s XBL?

We already know the Nintendo Network @ E3 as the site that shows us videos from E3, and the Nintendo eShop as its online store for games, demos and more content.

Nintendo also already owns the nintendonetwork.net domain [ex.: http://3dphoto-contest.nintendonetwork.net/], but that’s not all.

According to NintendoEnthusiast.com, an anonymous source has said Nintendo will launch a new network similar to the ones by its rivals. Perhaps it could be one of the things we’ll hear at Nintendo’s upcoming conference on the 26th, a ZeldaInformer.com post states. At NintendoEnthusiast, the paragraph says: “A source that wished to remain anonymous has told us that Nintendo will launch a website accessible from any web browser that will handle configuration of your Nintendo Network account for use on the Wii U or 3DS. He also stated that Nintendo Network will include many new features that haven’t been used before by Nintendo. According to his accounts: Nintendo Network = Sony PSN = Xbox Live.”

There is already a game that connects us to Nintendo Network it seems: Mario Kart 7.
